Author and economist John C. Redfern, native of Palmyra in central Illinois, is touring mainstreet communities including the Palmyras in the U.S.A.  On Saturday, September 23, 2006, John appeared in the Warren County Heritage Fall Festival with its focus upon Palmyra, Iowa.  On Saturday, September 16, 2006, John made a Palmyras USA presentation at the Trimble County Historical Society in Trimble County, KY.  On July 13th, 2006, he toured the extinct Palmyra site of Wabash County in Illinois.  Arriving at Mt. Carmel City Hall at noon, he began his tour with introductions and an informal gathering luncheon.  The day's itinerary included tours of the extinct Palmyra site and its historic marker near the Wabash River.  7 Palmyras existed at one time in Illinois, including Macoupin, Lee, Peoria, Will, Wabash, and Cook counties.   On January 19, 2006, John met with the county historian, the press and the citizens in the Palmyra/Clarksville TN region.  John received front page news coverage in Clarksville’s Leaf-Chronicle.  On January 16, 2006, John met with members of the city council in downtown Palmyra, IN with the executive director of the county Chamber of Commerce.  They discussed their current development projects along with a theme for the Palmyra.  Recently, John completed 3 years in AmeriCorps for national service to America.  As a professional reference stated, "He served as an effective Asset Development Coordinator and as a distinguished Vista Leader, especially supporting our impoverished communities.  During his experience as a Vista Leader, he assisted in  the  training & development of members including orientation & in-service training programs, regional resource coordination including resource development & funding development especially research & successful grant writing proposals, data collection & reporting including improving...administrative reporting requirements, & community outreach events including community meetings, presentations, & events.  John designed in-service training sessions involving resource development, volunteer management, performance management, funding development, & economic development.  Further, his national service ..., in particular his service at the Shasta County Department of Housing and Community Action Program’s new Youth IDA Program, demonstrated that John-Claude is an effective speaker, facilitator, & trainer capable of working with diverse groups."  John has traveled throughout mainstreet America touring middle-sized cities & towns communities from Maine to California.   John spoke at the public meetings of town halls, historical societies, public assemblies, and mainstreet conferences.   The grand tour has included twenty-one of the Palmyras with a future Middle West & southern Palmyras tour planned.   John received honorariums including the keys, the caps, and the plaques of main street communities.   John is working to publish his small-press publication, PALMYRAS USA (2007).  The historic book is a microcosm of mainstreet America.   The book includes detailed chapters about the toured Palmyras giving a narrative, socioeconomic perspective about their history & a visionary picture of the future.   The concluding chapter details the expose truths about modern development & the reform recommendations needed for sustainable development in mainstreet America.   John’s book, THE NEW WAVE MILLENNIUM, RURAL ECONOMIES, & HUMAN RIGHTS (2000), demonstrated that the damages done by modernization can be turned around using an alternative model for sustainable development in mainstreet communities.  John has three masters including a M.B.A., M.P.A. and a Master of Economics.  His websites detail his French American autobiography, the popular small-press publications with rave reviews, the mainstream media news articles, the Mainstreet USA slideshow, & what’s new,  e. g. http://mainstreetusa.bravehost.com/index.html John can be reached at [email protected] or S.B.C.A.P., P.O.
